GEAR UP New Mexico offers tutoring as a timely intervention and academic support for students to meet the increasing demands for high school graduation and postsecondary enrollment. Research indicates tutoring can help to improve passing rates, timely homework completion, grades, self-confidence, and content mastery. GUNM recognizes various tutoring models: study groups, push-in tutoring, goal tutoring, and drop-in tutoring.

In addition to tutoring, GEAR UP New Mexico provides schools resources and support for students in credit recovery programs after tracking student progress.

For over four decades, AVID has equipped educators to focus on rigorous instruction, insist on access and equity for all students, align work to a common vision, and believe in students’ potential in order to improve student outcomes. ​In addition to graduating more college-bound and career-ready students, AVID schools are equipping their students with the social and emotional faculties they need for life and career success. ​GEAR UP New Mexico provides funding for an AVID instructor and AVID professional development at each of our partner schools.

Through MasteryPrep, GEAR UP New Mexico students have access to the only SAT prep curricula designed from the ground up to boost their student scores. In 2022, the program released a robust set of distance learning options that will help teachers provide engaging and effective instruction to students both virtually and in-person.

Through our partnerships with Math 180® and MidSchoolMath, GEAR UP New Mexico is dedicated to preparing students for success in their core educational classes. GUNM funds our partner schools with a math intervention teacher, curriculum and professional development through these Math Intervention programs.
